Introduction
Speaking during the Day 3 Evening Session of the Greater Works Conference 2026 on Wednesday, August 5, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, one of the fathers of the Pentecostal movement in Nigeria and Presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), delivered a powerful message reminding believers that they are already victorious in Christ.
Drawing primarily from Exodus 3:19–20, he explained that although the devil is defiant and often resists God’s purposes, he has already been defeated through the finished work of Jesus Christ.
Throughout the sermon, Bishop Okonkwo repeatedly declared, “The believer is already in the winning team,” urging Christians to reject every mentality of fear, defeat and failure.
The Devil May Resist, But His Defeat Is Certain
Bishop Okonkwo began by highlighting God’s conversation with Moses before Israel’s deliverance from Egypt. God revealed that Pharaoh would initially refuse to release His people despite witnessing mighty miracles. According to the bishop, this illustrates the stubborn nature of Satan, who continually opposes God’s plans.
However, he assured the congregation that every satanic resistance has an expiry date because God always has the final word. He declared that every contradiction standing against God’s promises would come to an end through God’s mighty intervention.
The Blood of Jesus Places Believers on the Winning Side
Using the Passover account, Bishop Okonkwo explained that the blood placed on Israel’s doorposts pointed to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Because Christ has already shed His blood, believers no longer fight for victory but fight from victory.
Emphasising this truth, he boldly stated, “What God has already done in your life is more powerful than what the devil is doing.” He reminded worshippers that their confidence should rest in Christ’s finished work rather than in their circumstances.
You Are a New Creation, Not a Better Version of the Old
The bishop further taught that salvation is not merely self-improvement but a complete transformation. Every believer becomes a brand-new creation with God’s own life dwelling within.
Therefore, Christians should refuse to identify with failure, fear or condemnation. Instead, they should embrace their identity as overcomers who have been empowered by God to succeed in every area of life.
Christ Has Publicly Defeated Every Power of Darkness
Teaching from Colossians 2, Bishop Okonkwo explained that Jesus publicly disarmed principalities and powers through His death and resurrection. Every accusation against believers has been cancelled, and every weapon of the enemy has been stripped of its authority.
He therefore challenged Christians to stop magnifying the devil and instead magnify the greatness of God. As he declared, “You are not in the company of failures.”
From Shame to Honour
Drawing inspiration from the life of Jephthah, who was rejected by his family before later becoming their deliverer, Bishop Okonkwo encouraged those who had experienced humiliation or rejection.
He prophesied that God would reverse every season of shame and cause those who once rejected His people to seek them because of His favour. He also released prophetic declarations of promotion, healing, restoration, business growth, family breakthroughs and divine testimonies over the congregation.

Bishop Mike Okonkwo concluded with passionate prayers and prophetic declarations, urging believers never to agree with the devil’s lies but to remain firmly established in the victory Christ has already won. His message served as a timely reminder that Christians do not belong to the company of failures but to God’s victorious family.
