COTONOU, BENIN — Archbishop Charles Agyinasare has urged Christians to view wealth not merely as a means of personal comfort, but as a resource for advancing God’s Kingdom and helping others.

Preaching a sermon titled “Money with a Mission” at a Special Sunday of Revelation & Divine Visitation at Mission Source de Vie, Sikecodji on Sunday, September 20, 2026, Archbishop Agyinasare argued that Christians should seek financial progress with a clear Kingdom purpose.

Drawing from the biblical account of Abraham, he noted that God blessed Abraham materially while also calling him to become a blessing to others.

Money Must Have a Mission

Agyinasare used the story of the Good Samaritan to illustrate how financial resources can enable believers to practically assist people in need.

“May God put in your hands so that you can be a blessing to your generation.”

He stressed that the Samaritan could provide transportation, accommodation and money for the wounded man’s care because he possessed the resources to help.

The Archbishop further argued that money is necessary for evangelism and Christian ministry.

“We need money to preach the gospel.”

He explained that missionary travel, accommodation, church buildings, schools, crusades and other ministry activities require financial resources.

Wealth Should Bless Others

However, Agyinasare emphasised that acquiring wealth should go beyond personal enrichment.

“The reason why we must get wealth is so that the gospel will be preached and so that we can take care of the poor.”

He said the essence of wealth is for believers to “bless our generation,” pointing to the historic contribution of churches and missionaries to education and healthcare.

Sharing his own experience, Agyinasare recalled using money received after his wedding to organise a crusade rather than improve their furniture. He said many people were saved and lives transformed through that decision.
