Teshie, Accra – Friday, August 7, 2026 – Founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has reminded believers that the Church of Jesus Christ is God’s eternal institution and must never be surrendered to political, military, financial or technological influence.
Speaking during the Day 5 Morning Session of Greater Works Conference 2026, Pastor Otabil emphasized that Christ Himself established the Church with an unshakable foundation.
Quoting Jesus’ words, he declared, “I will build my church… and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it,” explaining that “nothing can destroy it. Nobody will control it outside of the people in the kingdom.”
He stressed that although the Church exists within nations and governments, “it is not subject to governments. It is not under political authority. It is not under military authority.”
Pastor Otabil therefore urged Christians to guard the Church’s divine mandate. “Don’t surrender the church to politicians. Don’t surrender the church to military might. Don’t surrender the church to technology. Don’t surrender the church to money because the church is supposed to stand forever,” he charged.
He further cautioned believers against seeking validation from influential personalities, saying, “Politicians don’t give us validity… Our value is based on the one who sets us up.”
According to him, the Church does not exist to pursue popularity or human approval but to fulfil God’s eternal purpose. “We are not here to court favour. We are not here to court popularity… We are here because the God of heaven knocked down four kingdoms in order to set us up,” he said, affirming that God’s Kingdom alone will stand forever.
