Pastor Mensa Otabil, Founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), has challenged Christians to develop personal relationships with God rather than depending entirely on pastors, prayer groups and church activities.

Delivering the second part of his sermon series, Parables of the Kingdom, titled What Kind of Soil Am I?, the renowned Ghanaian Bible teacher examined Matthew 13 and warned against Christianity built primarily around religious personalities.

“They believe in men of God more than God,” he declared.

Explaining the seed that fell on rocky ground, Pastor Otabil said some believers demonstrate enthusiasm, participate actively in church programmes and share testimonies but lack the spiritual foundation necessary to withstand life’s difficulties.

He observed that such Christians may depend on their pastor’s anointing, church fellowship or WhatsApp prayer groups without developing personal devotion.

“Listen, your roots must go beyond the church. It must go beyond a man of God. It must go beyond your prayer group.”

He encouraged Christians to cultivate independent Bible study, prayer and unwavering trust in God.

According to him, genuine spiritual maturity becomes evident when believers remain steadfast during adversity, even without constant encouragement from religious leaders.
